Children look forward to receiving gifts on Christmas from Santa Claus. It is done in memory of St Nicholas who lived in 300 AD.He was born in present day Turkey to a rich Greek family.St Nicholas loved children and he gave gifts to them secretly.Modern day gifting by Santa Claus is done in memory of St Nicholas. In Germany and other European countries Nicholas Day is celebrated on 6th Dec.
Children eagerly wait for this day to receive their gifts from St Nicholas. They leave Carrot's in their shoes as food for horse of St Nicholas. If the children have been good through the year they get gifts like chocolates and toys from St Nicholas. If the children have been bad then they get potatoes or coal as gifts. This tradition has been kept alive and today parents gift their children on this day.In offices Superiors gift their colleagues with chocolates in form St Nicholas.
Christianity lays very high emphasis on giving. There is nothing more joyful than giving and sharing with others.I will share few quotes on sharing which are inspiring
On high expectations from people who are well to do "To whom much is given; much more is expected of them"-Jesus
Keeping charity private "When you give alms with your right hand, let not know your left hand what your right hand is doing"-Jesus
Ethics of giving "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act"-Proverbs
Give in all what we do "Always think what can I give?"-APJ Abdul Kalam
