Kali Yuga

Recently I could read Mahabaratha and there where many interesting insights and learning from it.After the end of the war Pandavas were victorious and Yudhishtira became the king of Hastinapura.Yudhishtira was a noble man and he always upheld dharma. He went on to rule Hastinapura for thirty six years. He was the only one among the Pandavas who entered heaven alive as he upheld Dharma throughout his life.

Once two farmers came to Yudhishtira to settle a dispute. One farmer had purchased land from the other farmer. One day while ploughing the field a pot of gold was found. The farmer who owned the land now tried to return the gold to the farmer from whom he had purchased the land. The old owner of land refused to take the gold as he had already sold the land and now the gold belonged to the new owner. As they were not able to settle the case they came to Yudhishtira.

On hearing argument of both the sides Yudhishtira was preplexed. He didn't not know how administer justice in this case.He looked over to Lord Krishna and sought his advice.Lord Krishna asked Yudhishtira to ask the two farmers to return after three months. On hearing this Yudhishtira was surprised. He asked lord Krishna as to what would change in three months time.Lord Krishna asked Yudhishtira to wait and to be patient.

After three months both the farmers returned but this time their argument was different. The new owner of the land started claiming that the gold belonged to him as the land belonged to him.Old owner argued that the gold belonged to him as he had only sold the land to the new owner and not the gold.On hearing this Yudhishtira was surprised as the farmers had taken exactly opposite stand compared to their previous one.He asked Lord Krishna as to what has made the farmers to change their stand in three months time.

Lord Krishna smiled and replied,"Yudhishtira from today Kali yuga has started.I asked you to wait for three months so that Kali yuga would start. In Kali Yuga few people will be noble and uphold dharma. It will become easy for you to administer justice in this case. Now Divide the gold in to three parts. One part each for the two farmers and one part for you. This will be the way of the Kali Yuga where even justice will be administered taking a fees."
