I don’t know how long I will live, but I feel there is a science behind long life.It would be great if all of us could live happier and longer lives.If we observe nature then we will find out that most animals end up living six times of the age by which they turn adults. For example a dog reaches maturity by age of two or less. Dogs will generally go on to live longer than 12+ years. Humans generally mature by age of 20 and as per the golden rule we should be living up to the age of 120 years. Today with all the best medical facilities people live up to 78 years in developed countries. The life expectancy in India is even lower at 68 years. This clearly tells us that people are dying much earlier than what our bodies are built for. I will list down the main reason why some people manage to live longer
- Having a purpose: The people who generally live longer are the one’s who have a purpose in life. Purpose in life is something that makes us to get up from bed every day. Generally people who think beyond themselves and have higher goals for betterment of others or society live happier and longer.
- Physical activities: Generally it’s found the people who lived longer do not have a routine work out. But this people have a life style where they move around more and do more physical activities. For example something like washing cloths by hand, grinding things with a stone, walking or even bending and sitting on floor more often. Doing physical activities that we enjoy more makes us live longer.
- Community living: People who live longer are the one’s who are more social and are surrounded by community of people, friends, family and grand children. The people who have 4-5 good friends through out their lives end up living longer. In modern world we are loosing the concept of joint families and community living. Most old people in developed countries are living alone or in old age homes. This makes older people depressed and kills them earlier due to loneliness and feeling of not being wanted.
- Prayer: Research shows that people who go to church, temples etc live longer. Praying in communities or even with whole family is a good thing to do. There is a saying “A family which prays together stays together”.
- Food: People having primarily a plant based diet have an edge over non vegetarian people. Some special items like wine, fish etc as part of food does help in increasing the life expectancy of people. Also the people who eat less have a better chance at the game called life. There are three white enemies to our health sugar, salt and flour better to have a check on these things.
- Don’t retire: The word retirement is nothing but the death bell ringing in the background. I generally find that people after retirement don’t have an idea on what to do with their remaining lives. It’s very important to find out what one will do after one retires from professional life. This keeps one engaged and away from boredom and loneliness.
- Slow down: Might seem little funny but slowing down and chilling may help us to live longer. Being always in a hurry and competing with other can put us under unnecessary stress. The slowest animals like tortoise and elephant live longer. But a rabbit which is very fast has a very short life span.
