Higgs Boson or GOD particle

                                                                    Satyendra Nath Bose

Higgs Boson or God particle:

From many days I was thinking on what should be topic of my next blog. Then I heard the news yesterday that the scientists working at CERN have finally proved the existence of Higgs Boson also called as the god particle. From my childhood I always had interest in physics. First time I heard about Higgs Boson was 5 years back. It was a world wide news that scientist have conducted a successful experiment which showed the existence of god particle. But it was yesterday almost after five years it has been proven with actual physical measurement that something called Higgs Boson actually exists.

This experiment was carried out at CERN (European organization for nuclear research).CERN was established in the year 1954 by 12 countries from western Europe.CERN is the largest particle physics laboratory located in Geneva on the Swiss-France border. 10$ billion has been spend for carrying out this experiment. Scientist from across the world are working at CERN to prove the existence of the postulated particle called Higgs Bosons. Now the question comes why so much of effort and money is spend on finding out the God particle.

Higgs Boson is named after the British scientist Peter Higgs & Indian scientist Satyendra Nath Bose. Any atom is made of protons, neutron & electrons which in term are made of quarks and other sub atomic particles. Scientists always wondered how this minute building blocks of universe acquire mass. Without mass the particles wouldn’t hold together and there would be no matter. In 1960 Peter Higgs and some other scientists predicted the presence of a subatomic particle called Higgs Boson which creates a sticky field around it which keeps the other subatomic particles together and thus resulting in mass. Most of the theories of Physics are based on the assumption that a particle called Higgs boson exists which was not yet proven physically.

In this experiment atoms are made to collide with each other at very high velocity using a particle accelerator called Large Hadron collider. This result in atomic disintegration and within fraction of seconds the presence of Higgs Bosons has to be traced. Existence of Higgs Bosons proves that most of the theories of Physics are true and scientists are thinking in right direction. Other benefits of this CERN program was the invention of World Wide Web. This was invented at CERN for easy sharing of knowledge among scientists working at CERN.Later on in 1991 World Wide Web was released for general public use. The project at CERN requires large computing power to churn out all the data produced during the experiment. This resulted in development of cloud computing which is coming into main stream now.
