German Culture Football World Cup 2014

                                              2014 Germany World Cup Champions

I am not a big football fan and follow football only during the World Cups.My fondest memory of stay in Germany came during 2014 Football World Cup.Even though Germany is one of the most successful football teams, that year Germany was not considered favorites to win. Most Germans to whom I talked then didn't believe that their team would do well in that world cup.But somehow I had a feeling that Germany would win the world cup.During my interactions with my colleagues I would proclaim Germany would win and most people didn't take me seriously till Germany reached the Quarter Finals.
Normally Germany is a very quite and disciplined country.Only during tournaments like World Cup one can see lively environment on the streets.People prefer public viewing of the matches on big screens with food and Beer.If Germany wins then we can see people coming out to drive with German Flags on their cars.Only during such occasions we can see people honking in Germany.Me and Few of my colleagues watched the Football World Cup final in Stuttgart City Center.Thousands of people waited till late night enduring cold and rain to see Germany finally win the world cup for the fourth time. The celebrations ran deep into the night.
Next day morning I went to office and to my surprise most of my colleagues were in office. In Germany most people come to office on or before 7 am.What was even more surprising for me was that nobody spoke or discussed about the German victory.During the lunch time I asked my colleagues why no one discussed about the match during work hours?.To this I got a reply that there will be a big celebration on weekend when the German football team comes back to Stuttgart. Most people would go there to join in the celebration. But at office it was business as usual.Work and things outside work don't get mixed up in German even if they happen to win Football World Cup.
