Man's search for meaning

Victor Frankl was a world renowned physiatrist.During the world war II he managed to survive tourture for three years in concentration camps. The people at concentration camps faced death and tourture everyday.Only 10% people who entered the camp managed to come out alive from them.In his book, "Man's search for meaning" he points out that even in such a hopeless situation the people who could find a meaning in their suffering managed to come out alive.

Before the beginning of the World war II Victor Frankl was already a established physiatrist at Vienna Austria.Nazis had occupied Austria and staying back in Austria meant certain death.Victor had applied for a visa to migrate to USA.He and his wife got a visa clearance and were about to move to USA.But Victor was feeling guilty as he had to leave behind his parents in Austria to face persecution and death.

He was very much disturbed and was not able to arrive at a decision as to stay back or to migrate to USA.He prayed to God and asked for a correct direction. After he finished his prayer he found a  broken slab lying in his house. On the slab was inscribed one of the ten commandment from the old treatment of the Bible,"Honor your parents so that you will live long in the land".On reading this Victor made up his mind to stay back and support his old parents. He felt he did the right thing even though he knew staying back meant death.

After some days Victor, his wife, parents and brother were put into concentration camps. All his family members lost their lives due to torture they faced at the camp. After the end of the war Victor managed to walk out of the camp a free man. What saved him was his ability to find meaning even in his suffering and hopeless situation. He went on to become a world renowned physiatrist and the face of Holocaust survivers. He had followed the commandment of God to honor his parents. After the war he remarried and went of to live very long on earth and died at a ripe age of 92.
