St Peter Denies Christ

                                                           Peter's denial of Christ 

Today is passover and an important day for Christians.On this very day Jesus had his last supper with his disciples.During the last supper Jesus shared unleavened bread and wine with his disciples.Unleavened bread and wine represents the body and blood of Christ.St Peter who was one of the disciples of Jesus was present at the last supper.During the last supper Jesus predicted that Peter will deny him three times before the rooster crows next morning.To this Peter replied ,"Even if I have to die with you,I will never disown you".

After the last supper Jesus was arrested by the soilders and taken to the high preists house for trial.On seeing this all the disciples of Jesus fled due to fear of persecution.Only Peter followed Jesus and was looking at the happenings from distance.In the courtyard a servant girl looked at Peter and identified him as a disciple of Jesus.But Peter denied it by saying "Women I dont know him".Again after some time  Peter denied knowing Jesus to the same woman .The third denial by Peter was emphatic.People who had gathered around Peter in the courtyard said "Surely you are one of them,for your accent gives you away.On hearing this Peter started to call down curses upon himself and he swore to them,I dont know the man!Immediately a rooster crowed and then Peter looked at Jesus and remebered the predication made earlier "Before the rooster crows,you will disown me three times."

Tonight meditating on this Bibilical event I draw following conclusion 

1.Peter denied Jesus because he was weak.Even though he loved Jesus he denied knowing him out of his wekness.Jesus had said earlier "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak".In life many a times people fail to stand up for truth .This is because of weakness in their spirit.

2.Peter denied Jesus out of fear.Even though he didnt flee like other disiples but he was afraid that he to will be persecuated and killed like Jesus.

3.After this event Peter was very unhappy as he had denied his master.He repented his act and was very much ashamed of himself.It is better to be on the side of truth than to face to pain of repentance later.But Christ is forgiving to those who repeant

4.During our bad times many of the people who claim to be our well wishers will deny and desert us.Only the truely genuine people will stick around and support us during our bad times.

5.It takes courage to speak truth and stand up for the right things in life.Being on the on the side of truth and justice gaurantees us eternal life which  is promised by Christ.
